Our building has some stories to tell..

In 1986 our location 77 Main Street, Moira was purchased by Hearth Historic Buildings Trust, a Northern Irish charity and conservation organisation dedicated to rescuing, restoring, and preserving historic buildings that are at risk. The buildings in this row had lain derelict since the mid sixties and demolition was actually threatened in the early eighties but thankfully averted by listing.

By the time the practice was purchased by our predecessor in 1988 the building had been lovingly restored.

Marilyn graduated from Edinburgh university in 1993 and after a short stint working in Edinburgh returned home to work under Ken Nicholson who she later purchased the practice from in 1999.

Since purchasing Moira Dental Care in 1999, Marilyn Todd has remained at the heart of the practice, leading its growth and development over more than two decades. Throughout the years, many dentists and team members have been part of the practice’s journey, with loyal staff members including Angela, Ruth and Peter each dedicating over 20 years of service to caring for patients and supporting the practice.

Today, the practice is home to six dentists — Marilyn, Lorraine, Peter, Curtis, Laura and James — alongside hygienist Alfa and a skilled clinical support team of 10. Together, the team provides a wide range of treatments, from family dentistry and preventative care to more complex services including dental implants, orthodontics and sedation dentistry. The nursing team is specially trained to support these advanced treatments, reflecting the practice’s strong belief in continuous training and development to help every team member succeed.

Moira Dental Care has seen many changes over the years, continually investing in both patient care and modern facilities. The practice now operates with four surgeries, with the fourth surgery added in 2020 to help meet growing demand. Additional improvements include a dedicated decontamination room and the introduction of a CBCT scanner in 2024, allowing for advanced imaging and enhanced treatment planning. With four surgeries running five days a week and a welcoming reception team of two, the practice continues to provide high-quality dental care for the local community and beyond.
